Ridgebury Farm & Stables is seeking a Horse Manager/ Groom who is highly skilled and proactive in all aspects of horse care and farm livestock and possesses a solid working knowledge of basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs, and equine behavioral management techniques.
They will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the barn and the horses.
The Groom is a full-time position and will include irregular hours, such as evenings, weekends, and holidays. Expected hours are approximately 45 hours per week. Sick or injured horses may require tending to during off-hours, where the groom may be required to assist in caring for the horse.
Hours will be based on a schedule system and there will be a need to be flexible with working longer hours as necessary and directed by management.
The groom will be provided with on-site housing.
Pay rate will be commensurate with experience. Due to the nature of this role, the Groom will be expected to live in the onsite housing.
Daily care and management of all horses/ livestock and equipment.
Provide horses with water, feed and supplements.
Muck out stalls and run in sheds and replace bedding as needed.
Barn cleaning and basic maintenance, including tack room, wash stalls, and hayloft, etc.
Turn out/in horses to paddocks as scheduled.
Assist in keeping fields clear of manure and poisonous plants.
Basic maintenance and minor repairs of grounds, barn, paddocks and fences, etc.
Tend to live-out/ turnout horses, including ensuring water is available.
General daily grooming.
Herd management duties as needed.
Ensure individual horse’s specific maintenance such as leg wraps, fly masks, blankets, etc.
Assist with veterinary treatments.
Ability to tack the horse for boarders and clients.
Cleaning and organizing tack (monitor for wear and damage).
Send requests for needed supplies, equipment, and feed.
Assist in maintaining records for horses, equipment, and supplies.
Prepare stalls for incoming and outgoing boarders.
Prepare horses for routine veterinary visits and farrier visits.
Ensure manure management plan is followed.
Report any maintenance issues in a timely manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Due to the nature of our business, all employees will be required to pass a background check.
Knowledge of industry standards for horse care.
Experience working in a large horse facility in a multi-discipline barn.
Ability to interface with clients in a professional manner.
Education and Experience:
Three to five years’ experience
Extensive outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Requires the ability to consistently perform long periods of moderate to intense physical activity.
Comfortable handling horses in excess of 1000 pounds.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
