FARM SANCTUARY TO ADOPT LILY THE ABUSED HORSE

KENNETT SQUARE, PA – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Kelly Smith, Founder of Omega Horse Rescue, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, is inviting the press and media to attend the official adoption proceedings of Lily, the abused mare found at New Holland Sales Stable auction

in March of 2016; emaciated, with diseased, painful eyes and covered in paint. Kelly Smith rescued Lily from a most certain death and brought her to Penn Vet's New Bolton Center for veterinary treatment and care.

Each year, tens of thousands of American horses including riding horses, children’s ponies, carriage horses, and race horses, among others, are inhumanely transported to be slaughtered for overseas consumption. The majority are young, healthy animals who could have gone on to lead productive lives.

Horses are generally transported long distances in crowded trailers, traveling for many hours or even days on end without rest, food or water. They often arrive exhausted, dehydrated, severely injured or even dead – the result of fights or falls sustained during their journey. They panic in the kill box, making them difficult to stun accurately – and are sometimes conscious while they are suspended by a back leg, bled out, and dismembered.

The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming, and Kelly is proud to announce that Lily will officially be adopted by Jon and Tracey Stewart, who recently partnered with Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization, to open the organization’s fourth location, in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

Dr. Nicole Scherrer, New Bolton Center ophthalmology resident, will be available to answer questions about Lily's health and medical care.

The Omega Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Center has placed more 1,200 horses. They handle many breeds of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules for placement into new loving homes.
